There is something about Mexico that stays with you long after you've returned home.
From the vibrant streets of Mexico City to the turquoise waters of Tulum, the historic towns of the Yucatán, and the colorful streets of Oaxaca, every place has its own personality, history, and charm.
Mexico City is a wonderful mix of old and new. Grand architecture, leafy neighborhoods, beautiful old buildings, and little cafés tucked along busy streets. There are antique shops to wander through, galleries to discover, and markets filled with everything from fresh flowers to handmade pottery. The city has an energy all its own, yet some of its most memorable moments are found in the quieter corners.
Traveling through the Yucatán, the landscape changes again. Colonial towns with pastel buildings, shaded courtyards, and cobblestone streets give way to old haciendas, hidden cenotes, and remarkable Mayan architecture. In places like Valladolid and Mérida, colorful doorways open onto quiet courtyards, and the scent of cinnamon and freshly made corn tortillas drifts from little restaurants. Life feels wonderfully connected to the past.
Further south, Tulum moves at an entirely different pace. Turquoise water, white sand, ancient Mayan ruins, and little roads lined with tropical greenery. There is an easy simplicity to life here, with natural materials, thatched roofs, and warm coastal breezes. It's a place where the beauty of the surroundings seems to find its way into everything.
And then there is Oaxaca, a place that truly captured our hearts. Streets lined with colorful buildings, beautiful churches, bustling markets, and the smell of roasting corn in the air. Everywhere you look, there is something being made. Pottery, woven rugs, embroidered textiles, and intricately carved wooden figures fill the shops and market stalls. Art and craftsmanship are such an important part of life here, and you can feel that connection to tradition throughout the city and surrounding villages.
While each destination left us with wonderful memories, it was the artisans and their work that made the greatest impression.
We wandered through small workshops, family studios, and local markets, discovering pottery shaped by hand, textiles woven with care, and wooden pieces carved using techniques passed down through generations. We loved the richness of the colors, the natural materials, and the little imperfections that make each piece unique.
There is something special about knowing that an object was made by someone's hands. That the knowledge behind it may have come from a parent or grandparent, and that the same traditions continue today. These are the pieces we found ourselves returning to, the ones we couldn't imagine leaving behind.
It was through these travels that our first collection for Ondare Home began to take shape.
We chose pieces that felt timeless, interesting, and full of character. Objects that could sit comfortably alongside treasured antiques or bring warmth and personality to a more modern home. Above all, we wanted to share a little of the beauty and craftsmanship that made us fall in love with Mexico.
Our Mexico collection is a reflection of the places we've explored, the people we've met, and the wonderful things we've discovered along the way.
We hope these pieces find a place in your home and become part of your own story.
Because sometimes the things we bring home from our travels are what keep those places close to our hearts.
